Slideshare

Slideshare is getting popular and is called the YouTube of PowerPoint. Slideshare is a great Web 2.0 tool that let users upload their presentations and share them online through a YouTube-like interface. It accepts PowerPoint (ppt & pps), PDF, & OpenOffice (odp) files with a maximum file size of 30 MB for each presentation file.

Slideshare is quite easy to use. You can upload your files after you login the Slideshare site. Alternatively, you can upload your presentations via URL upload, Email Upload, Upload Plugin (IE or Firefox). Once your presentation is uploaded to Slideshare, it is converted into a Flash format but it retains the hyperlinks that remain clickable even in the converted presentation.

Slideshare has several impressive features. Your presentation can be tagged, and comments left by viewers. Also, the slide transcripts are automatically generated from text elements of your individual slides as you play the presentation. In addition, each slide has its own URL for reference so you can give a URL for users to view a particular slide (i.e., slide 75) without going through your entire presentation. Furthermore, Slideshare has a Slidecasting capability that allows authors to synchronize slides with an audio file. Basically, Slidecasting is a slideshow plus podcasting. I think it is a great tool for conference presentations, musical slideshows, audio picture books, and etc.

After testing Slideshare for several weeks, I found Slideshare is clean, functional, easy to use, and fast. It supports various copyright claims, including creative commons. I think SlideShare is a cool place to share and discover presentations and slideshows. I consider using Slideshare to post conference presentations and for archiving purposes.

I know several people who use this on their myspace. Alot of people tell me that this is better than YouTube. I personally have never used anything like it, maybe photobucket, but I have not used a slideshow or YouTube. The people I know that have used this software extremely love all the “extras.” They like the fact that they can tag people and that people who see their pictures can comment on them. I think it is a great software tool for presentations, and anyother type of audio presentations. I have been told that is is easy to use and is very functional.

    Slideshare
    Flash

    Slideshare

The development and application of Mobile-Learning”,

From my perspective as a student in Instructional Technology 780, Slideshare is an effective learning tool. I like the way you have embedded Slideshare presentations into the Lecture Notes sections of our class web site. I always go through them and study them and then I find myself going back for a quick review/reteach session. Sometimes the review or reteach session is another in depth session. For me, Slideshare lends itself to an overview or reteaching sessions.
It is also beneficial for the learner to have text elements of the individual slides for additional examination.

Since I have been introduced to Slideshare, I have enjoyed looking for presentations on topics that I am studying. This has proven to be an interesting site.

The students at the school where I currently teach create many presentations to share their learning. Power Point is the preferred presentation technology tool that I have seen applied. In fact, I am not aware of anyone using Slideshare or Slidecast. This is probably simply a matter of a lack of awareness of Slideshare. Taking a presentation and uploading it to share like You Tube, well the students at my school would be chomping at the bit for the chance to have an engaging opportunity like this.

I agree that Slideshare has impressive features. Taking a Power Point, uploading it to Slideshare, creating an audio file, then synchronizing the slides to the audio file, has many implications for today’s learners. When I used this Web 2.0 tool for my technology class, I only had a few minor problems, although at the time I thought they were life threatening. I am sure with some practice I can work out these problems.
